Petrek is designed for pets already used to wearing a collar.

If your pet is new to collars, let them adjust for a few days before attaching the tracker.
Please do not rush through the setup process, read the fine prints below and test accordingly in your area before usage. Most importantly, read our return and refund policy before you make an order.

The World’s Smallest Multi-Network 4G Pet Trackers

More networks. Wider coverage. Greater peace of mind.

Petrek has been helping pet owners stay connected since the original Petrek GPS launched in New Zealand in 2010.

Building on that experience, the compact Petrek GPS-4 was introduced in 2024. Now, the new Petrek GPS-4 MAX, launched in 2026, combines multi-network 4G connectivity with Petrek’s WiFi HomeZone technology to deliver wider coverage, improved performance at home and more reliable tracking while your pet is out exploring.

The New Zealand edition can access supported major mobile networks across the country, rather than being restricted to a single network. This includes OneNZ, Spark, 2Degrees, and Skinny.

Why Choose Petrek GPS-4 MAX?

  • Multi-network 4G connectivity
  • Wider coverage across New Zealand
  • WiFi HomeZone technology
  • Live location tracking from your smartphone
  • Flexible updates from 30 seconds to 2 hours
  • GeoFence boundary alerts
  • Up to seven days of location history
  • Compatible with Apple iOS and Android
  • Local support, repairs and replacement parts
  • No separate SIM top-ups or monthly mobile plan

Multi-Network Coverage

Stay Connected in More Places

Most GPS trackers depend on one mobile network. If that network has weak or no coverage in the area, the tracker may be unable to send its latest location.

The GPS-4 MAX uses a specially integrated multi-network SIM that can access supported major mobile networks across New Zealand.

This provides:

  • Wider overall mobile coverage
  • Better connectivity across different regions
  • Improved performance on rural and regional journeys
  • Less reliance on one network provider
  • A greater chance of receiving an update when your pet moves between coverage areas

Multi-network coverage is also available with the Australian GPS-4 MAX edition through supported major Australian mobile networks.

Important: Multi-network access greatly improves your available coverage, but no mobile provider can guarantee reception in every location. Remote areas, valleys, dense bush, buildings and other obstructions may still affect connectivity.

Smarter Tracking at Home

Petrek WiFi HomeZone

GPS signals can become weak or distorted when a tracker is indoors. Signals entering through windows can sometimes cause the location to appear across the road or several properties away.

When GPS-4 MAX detects your registered home WiFi network, HomeZone recognises that your pet is at home and reduces unnecessary GPS searching.

HomeZone helps to:

  • Prevent inaccurate indoor location updates
  • Reduce indoor GeoFence false alerts
  • Lower unnecessary battery consumption
  • Extend battery life by up to 70% in suitable conditions

HomeZone does not use your home WiFi for internet access. It identifies the unique WiFi location so the tracker can recognise when your pet is at home.

Live Tracking from Your Smartphone

Use the SafeTrek app to view your pet’s latest reported location on your compatible Apple or Android device.

Available features include:

  • Live Google Maps location
  • Map and satellite views
  • Rapid Lightning reporting Mode
  • GeoFence boundary alerts
  • Low-battery notifications
  • Up to seven days of movement history

Lightning Mode requests rapid location updates for a limited period when you need to follow your pet more closely.

All live features require sufficient satellite positioning and mobile-network reception.

Flexible Tracking Modes

Choose how often the GPS-4 MAX checks and reports your pet’s location:

  • 30 seconds
  • 5 minutes
  • 10 minutes
  • 30 minutes
  • 1 hour
  • 2 hours

Frequent updates provide more detailed tracking but consume more battery. Longer intervals extend battery life and are ideal for everyday use.

Alert timing also depends on the selected reporting mode. For example, when set to 10-minute reporting, the tracker generally checks for a boundary breach every 10 minutes.

Simple Annual Service Pricing

GPS-4 MAX does not require you to purchase or maintain a separate consumer mobile plan.

New Zealand Service Pricing

First 12 months: NZ$45

Includes:

  • Multi-network mobile connectivity
  • SafeTrek app access
  • Mapping service
  • Data used for standard tracker location updates

From the second year: NZ$75 per year

Includes continued:

  • Multi-network connectivity
  • Mobile data
  • SafeTrek app access
  • Mapping service

There are no separate SIM top-ups and no monthly mobile plan to manage.

A normal single-network consumer prepay plan can cost approximately NZ$8–$20 per month, depending on the provider, plan and usage. That can equal approximately NZ$96–$240 per year, before adding any separate tracking or app service. GPS-4 MAX provides multi-network tracking and app access through one simple annual fee.

Mobile-provider pricing is subject to change. Comparison is based on publicly advertised entry-level New Zealand consumer prepay plans.

Everything Needed Is Included

Every GPS-4 MAX includes:

  • Petrek GPS-4 MAX tracker
  • Installed multi-network SIM
  • Silicone collar-mounting case
  • Charging cable
  • SafeTrek app access
  • First 12 months of multi-network service for NZ$45 (Paid via QR code)

No additional tracking accessories are required. Your pet will only need its own suitable collar.

Compact and Designed for Everyday Use

The compact GPS-4 MAX weighs only 30 grams and attaches to your pet’s existing collar using the included silicone mounting case.

It is generally suitable for cats and dogs weighing approximately 3.5–4kg or more, provided they are comfortable wearing a collar.

If your pet is not used to wearing a collar, allow them to wear one for several days before attaching the tracker.

Dimensions

46mm × 38mm × 19mm

Please check the size and weight before use. A used tracker cannot be returned simply because it is considered too large for the pet.

Battery-Life Expectations

Battery life depends on:

  • Selected reporting interval
  • Pet activity
  • Time spent within HomeZone
  • GPS signal strength
  • Mobile-network reception
  • Enabled features

Typical Battery Guide

30-second reporting: approximately 4–6 hours

5–30-minute reporting: several hours to several days

1–2-hour reporting: approximately 3–6 days, or up to two weeks when the tracker spends most of its time within HomeZone

These figures are estimates only. Poor reception and frequent movement require the tracker to work harder and can shorten battery life.

Better reception, longer reporting intervals and more time within HomeZone generally improve battery performance.

GPS Accuracy and Reception

Like every GPS tracking device, GPS-4 MAX performs most accurately when it is:

  • Outdoors
  • Moving
  • In an open area
  • Receiving a clear satellite signal

Accuracy may decrease when the tracker is:

  • Inside a building
  • Under a house or roof
  • Surrounded by dense trees
  • Stationary
  • Obstructed by the pet or another object

Under weak-signal conditions, an update may occasionally appear significantly farther away. Mapping accuracy can also affect where the location marker appears.

HomeZone helps prevent these misleading updates when the tracker is within range of your registered home WiFi network.

GeoFence Boundary Alerts

Create a virtual boundary and receive an alert when the tracker reports that your pet has left the selected area.

GeoFence performance depends on:

  • GPS reception
  • Mobile-network coverage
  • Your selected reporting interval
  • The size and placement of the boundary

Indoor GPS movement can occasionally cause a false alert. HomeZone helps reduce this by recognising when your pet remains at home.

For best results, avoid setting the boundary too close to the walls of your home or the edge of your property.

Coverage Check and Initial Testing

GPS-4 MAX can access supported major networks, giving it significantly wider coverage than a tracker restricted to one provider.

However, reception cannot be guaranteed everywhere.

Before attaching the tracker to your pet:

  1. Fully charge and activate the device.
  2. Take it outside into an open area.
  3. Complete a short walk or road test around your neighbourhood.
  4. Confirm that locations are updating correctly.
  5. Test the areas where your pet is most likely to travel.

Please complete this test before the tracker is worn. Refunds cannot be provided solely because coverage is unavailable in a particular location after the device has been used.

Water Resistance and Care

GPS-4 MAX is IP67 water-resistant, meaning it can withstand rain, splashes and temporary immersion in fresh water up to one metre for approximately 30 minutes.

It is not designed for deep-water use or extended submersion.

After exposure to water, mud, sand or salt:

  1. Remove the tracker from its silicone case.
  2. Rinse it gently with clean fresh water.
  3. Dry it thoroughly.
  4. Ensure the charging contacts are clean and completely dry before charging.

Corrosion or charging-point damage caused by inadequate cleaning or maintenance is not covered under warranty.

Safety-Release Mounting

The silicone case and collar attachments are designed to release or break under excessive pressure.

This helps reduce the risk of your pet becoming permanently trapped under a house, in a tree, over a fence or inside another confined space. Your pet’s safety is more important than the tracker. Petrek cannot accept responsibility for a tracker that becomes detached and lost during such an event.

Damaged or worn silicone mounting cases should be replaced promptly.

Local Support, Repairs and Replacement Parts

Petrek is supported locally rather than operating as an overseas, replacement-only product.

Our local services include:

  • New Zealand and Australian customer support
  • Local repair facilities
  • Stocked replacement parts
  • Replacement silicone cases
  • Battery replacement services
  • Technical setup assistance

The rechargeable battery will generally last approximately three to five years, depending on use. Local battery-replacement services are available from approximately $49.

This allows many Petrek trackers to be repaired and maintained instead of unnecessarily replaced.

Warranty

GPS-4 MAX includes a 12-month Return-to-Base warranty.

The warranty does not cover:

  • Physical damage
  • Lost trackers
  • Normal wear and tear
  • Charging-contact corrosion
  • Damage caused by inadequate cleaning
  • Water damage outside the IP67 limits
  • Damage caused by unsuitable chargers or misuse

Please refer to the complete warranty and returns policy before purchasing.

Peace of Mind in More Places
