Petrek GPS without SIM Purchase

When you first receive the tracker, make sure you read through this guide and click on the video guide at the bottom to understand how to turn the tracker on/off and how to charge it properly. Ideally the user guide provided will also explain these procedures but the video would be clearer for most.

Please note 2Degrees mobile no longer supports 2G network so the Petrek GPS will only work with Vodafone.

We recommend Vodafone pay and go, it is vital to have an online account registered with the card before you insert it into your Petrek GPS so you can check credit and top up once a year. A $20 top up credit should last you a whole year if you use Vodafone's Pay & Go prepay, unless they change their rules in the future.

If you get Vodafone Pay & Go from the shop make sure they test it for you that it’s activated, has credit and data works on the card. Also make sure that you do not bend the SIM card as we have had a number of cases where the trackers update intermittently due to the sim card contacts not being flat down on the pins of the sim card slot.

After viewing the video below, inserting the sim card and downloading the iPet App you will just need to turn it on and go out for a quick walk outside in "urgent mode" with the tracker to pick up in your location, or better yet go for a drive to the local grocery store nad make sure it updates all routes in history later on.

Don’t forget to insert the rubber waterproof lugs into the 4 screw holes after you have inserted the sim, fit the cover back, and screwed it in tightly! Also DO NOT pull the charging port rubber out! Just flick it open gently for charging

Please make sure you read our FAQ below if you are unsure of the logic and usages.

For example, once in power saving mode you need to wait up to 15 minutes to have it change back to normal or urgent due to battery saving techniques. Geo-fencing only triggers on each update, so if it's on normal mode (5min) then you will be alerted once every 5 min if the app detects the tracker is out of the boundary. The modes will only change if the tracker is moving and has the signals it requires to work. So if you are switching back from power saving mode or any other mode but your cat/dog is currently indoor or somewhere with no Mobile + GPS reception then there will always be a delay till it moves out from under a building etc.

Remember! The tracker only works best when outdoors as GPS signal cannot get indoors and thus accuracy is anywhere from 0.5 to 30 metres! Always go to http://www.pettracking.co.nz/pages/frequently-asked-questions and read about “GPS accuracy” If you get a purple icon on your updates, that means the tracker is indoors and it's showing you the nearest cell tower, so make sure LBS assist is disabled so you only get updates when there is GPS signal.

*Please note: When your Petrek GPS is fully charged the red LED light will go off. There will be no solid Green as per instructed on your user guide, so please ignore the user guide and follow the video guides below

Make sure you select the correct video for iPhone and Android below.
